CHRIS Burton was today preparing to take his "next step forward" in boxing's heavyweight division.
The undefeated Dave Garside-managed fighter is the chief support act in tomorrow night's Sky Sports-screened show in Middlesbrough.

Burton tackles Lee Swaby of Lincoln over eight rounds at the Eston Sports Academy, where Boro featherweight Paul Truscott meets Osumanu Akaba for the vacant Commonwealth title.

It's a big occasion for Burton.

The 27-year-old, nicknamed Hightower, made his TV debut in February when he demolished 'Blackpool Rock' Mathew Ellis on the Nigel Wright undercard at Peterlee Leisure Centre.

That third-round stoppage not only got him exposure on the small screen but made it a perfect 10 wins out of 10.

Now, the Neil Fannan-trained boxer is looking to extend his winning run and move him closer to the title picture.

"It's the chief support contest and it's another step in the right direction for me," he said.

"It's on Sky which is nice and over eight rounds which is perfect.

"It's another notch towards 10 rounds and title fights, but when they come is up to Neil.

"Of course, I want to fight for titles, and it's nice to look down the line and have ambition.

"But there's no point saying 'I want to do this or do that'.

"I've got to get this fight out of the way first.

"But I know the more I win the closer it (title chances] will come.

"If I get a good victory in Middlesbrough then I can take things from there."

Burton is full of confidence, quite rightly, particularly as his stablemate, David Dolan, has already beaten Swaby.

The Prizefighter finalist outpointed the experienced Lincoln southpaw on the Peterlee show in February.

"I didn't see the fight, but Dave (Dolan] has lent me the video of their bout," sad Burton.

"I've spoken to Dave and he's told me not to get drawn in to a scrap – he's said I should get in there and out-box him.

"I'll just see what he's like when I get in there.

"If an opportunity opens up (to stop him] then fair enough, but if it doesn't then I'll concentrate on my boxing.

"It's the fittest, strongest and sharpest I've ever been.

"My weight is slightly down and that's a reflection of how well my training has gone. I was 17 stone for my last contest and this time I reckon I'll be a bout 16stones 8lb.

"I feel great and now it's about me producing the goods on the night
"I've never fought a southpaw before so it's going to be good experience for me.

"I'll have to make sure I don't get carried away and go charging in and walk on to any daft shots.

"I must approach the contests the same way I did against Egobe and Ellis.

"I'll look to work my way into the fight and use my boxing."
