LOCAL boxing is set for a mouthwatering derby at the Tyne, Tees and Wear Junior ABA championship.
Hartlepool Catholic Club wonderkid Callum Winton will meet Horden Sportsman starlet Anth Hardy in the class four Under 60 kilo final on Thursday, May 8.

Winton and Hardy were two of the stars of light night's staging of the Tyne, Tees and Wear sem
i-finals at Peterlee Leisure Centre.

There were also victories for South Durham ABC'S Jeff Saunders and Mohammed Wagas while Gus Robinson Developments trio, Paul Archer, Peter Cope and Steve Smith, all received byes, as did Headland's Steve Hart.

Winton was in irrepressible form to stop Sunderland fighter Jamie Guilean in the second round.

Hardy followed him into the ring and looked just as impressive as he defeated Hetton Town's Jordan King 17-2.

Smith and Hart both box Tyne, Tees and Wear finals at Peterlee Leisure Centre on Thursday, May 8, while Archer and Cope have received byes to the quarter-finals in Newbiggin on Sunday, May 18, as has East Durham's Declan Fusco.

Glenn McCrory, the North-East's only major world champion and now Sky Sports commentator, was a spectator at Peterlee, watching the boxers from his Northumbria gym.
