SAVANNAH Marshall today set her sights on following in the footsteps of fellow Hartlepool fighter Amanda Coulson after claiming ABA glory.
Marshall claimed the junior female ABA crown in her under-70kg category on Saturday after a convincing victory over Chadd ABC's Jodie Brierley.

Headland ABC coach Tim Coulter is hoping becoming national champion could prove a springboard for the 17-year-old who has struggled to find opponents of her calibre in this country.

The England international can now expect to meet the best in Europe, just as Coulson has done so successfully.

And Coulter has already started the calls for Marshall to be handed a senior call-up for the EU Female Championships, in August.

He said: "I don't see why they should not give Savannah a go at it.

"It has been really hard to get her fit for the ABAs because she has been suffering with anaemia, but we knew if we got her there it would be a springboard to better things.

"She has won that now and you can't do any better than a first-round stoppage. Hopefully it will go from there.

"She has got the talent and the ability and that is why I think the England camp should give her a stab at it."

Marshall was never in any danger against Brierley, who stepped up at the last minute to fill the gap left by her semi-final conqueror Kelly O'Neill, from Gosport ABC, who pulled out.

The Hartlepool star connected with some powerful right and left hooks and Brierley never really recovered.

Marshall was 4-0 up after the first round, when Brierley's corner threw in the towel.

Coulter said: "I am not sure how much experience the other girl had, but it was a mis-match. Savannah just dominated from the first round.

"As I was giving her instructions at the end of the round, I got tapped on the shoulder to say Brierley was pulling out."
