MARK Denton will face a Polish fighter when he makes his professional debut next week.
The Hartlepool super-middleweight fights Pawel Trebinski at the Mayfair Centre, Seaton Carew, a week on Sunday, in his first bout since November 2005.
Trebenski, now based in Tooting, has boxed once as a pro, a points win in the plush surroundings
of the Cafe Royal in London's Piccadilly.
"I don't like it when I don't know owt about the bloke my man is fighting," said coach Neil Fannan, who has already guided Mark's elder brother Craig to six straight pro wins.
"All I know is his record and the fact he's a come-forward, game fighter."
Denton fell out of love with boxing after an exciting amateur career when he became known as the Headland hitman.
Fannan is not worried about the effect the long absence will have on the Dave Garside-managed fighter.
"Mark is top class really – in his amateur days he got himself up among the best middleweights in the country," said the trainer.
"Everyone is looking forward to seeing Mark fight again.
"He stopped boxing, but when Craig turned pro Mark was there supporting him and he caught the bug again.
"Mark would have got started before now, but he's had to wait a bit longer because he's had an operation on his hand.
"He's fine now and very fit – both Craig and Mark are model professionals.
"Mark is champing at the bit to get in there and this will be a good fight for him.
"By all accounts the Polish lad comes for a go."
Brother, Craig, will top the bill at the Seaton Carew venue, against an, as yet, unnamed opponent.
Their stablemate, Ryan Ashworth, a new signing by Fannan, will also have a six-rounder.
