Boost for wetlands
A COUNCIL has been given a cash boost to help create a network of wetland areas.
Hartlepool Borough Council has received a boost of £24,000 from the SITA Trust, which provides donations through the Landfill Communities Fund to help neighbourhoods carry out improvement projects.
Areas that will benefit from the funds are Ward Jackson Park, Burn Valley Gardens, Seaton Carew Park, the Phoenix Centre on the Central Estate, and Golden Flatts.
Deborah Jefferson, the council’s countryside officer, said: “The SITA Trust funding has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to improve the bio-diversity of our parks and green spaces as wetland areas and provide homes for many thousands of different birds, amphibians and insects.”
Tees Valley Wildlife Trust will create the ponds with their “experienced and dedicated” teams of volunteers and will use seeds from Wildflower Ark at Nature’s World in Middlesbrough.
