New role as police map redrawn

A POLICE inspector will be the first to fill a new town-wide role as a force’s neighbourhood map is redrawn.
Hartlepool had been broken down into three areas by Cleveland Police, but is now being separated into just two – coastal and central – with a neighbourhood inspector assigned to each.
There will be a third leadership role under the title of operational neighbourhood inspector covering the whole of Hartlepool and looking at issues affecting all of the town, such as domestic violence and metal theft.
The changes are in line with ward boundaries being redrawn by Hartlepool Borough Council ahead of elections in May.
Inspector Paul Haytack is moving from the town’s response team to fill the district-wide position.
Insp Haytack, who has been involved in policing for more than two decades, said: “I’m really looking forward to getting settled into my new role and to learning new things.
“As I’ve been an officer for 22 years, I have a lot of experience and policing knowledge but I’m always eager to learn more.
“Working closely with the neighbourhood inspectors and with partner agencies, I’m co-ordinating a district-wide response to tackling prominent issues.
“In doing so, Hartlepool will remain a safe and pleasant place to live and visit.”
Issues highlighted include anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, criminal damage, metal theft and organised crime.
Insp Haytack, who has held positions spanning from CID to child protection, will also play a part in the Mail-backed Operation Respect, which targets the minority who cause the vast majority of crime and disorder in the town.
He will be focusing on individuals highlighted as disrupting communities in a bid to curb their behaviour and improve neighbourhoods.
The changes come due to the ward boundaries being changed in the run up to “all-out” council elections in May, when the current 47 councillors will be cut down to 33.
Inspector Lee Rukin is heading the coastal area and will be responsible for areas such as the Headland, West View and Seaton Carew.
Inspector Carl Broughton will cover the central areas including Owton Manor and Rift House.
