PEOPLE are enjoying the chance to look back on time gone by at monthly meetings of a history group.

Residents regularly question experts on the history of Hartlepool’s Headland and get the opportunity to look at dozens of photographs at the gathering.

The dedicated members at Hartlepool Headland Local History Group meet in the Borough Hall, on the Headland.

Dozens of people attended throughout the day and members said, as ever, they are delighted with the ever-increasing response.

John Cambridge, 67, a member who lives on the Headland with wife Ada, said: “We meet on the second Wednesday of every month and it always proves popular.

“We normally get around 50 people through the door.

“They might come with questions to ask about the past of the Headland or just to look at some of the photographs we have on display.

“People don’t have to be members to attend.”

The gathering came at a busy time for the history group.

The club’s AGM will be taking place at the Borough Hall on Tuesday, February 21, from 6.45pm.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a member is urged to go along.

Meanwhile, the hard working current members are delighted with the feedback they have received after they released their second book.

More than 200 copies of Further Reflections of Old Hartlepool, a follow up to Reflections of Old Hartlepool, have now shifted off the shelves.

The book contains dozens of Headland photographs from the past.

John added: “We are really pleased with the sales.

“We thought, after the success of the first book, that this would also prove popular and it has done just that.”

People can pick up a copy of the book, priced at £11.99 from Hartlepool Art Gallery, in the town’s Church Square, or Atkinson Print, in Church Street, Hartlepool.

The history group meet sat the Borough Hall on the second Wednesday of every month from 11.30am-4pm.
