A VINTAGE piece of railway history is on the move once again after finding a new home.

For the last six years, the 1958 Swedish rail car has provided visitors to Tweddle Childrens’ Animal Farm in Blackhall Colliery with a place to eat their lunch.

But after being repaired by local rail enthusiasts, it has been sold to a preserved railway in the south.

The car was loaded on to the back of a lorry for the long journey to its new home of the Nene Valley Railway at Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

Husband and wife Peter and Denise Wayman, who run Tweddle Farm, bought the unusual item from internet site ebay.

Denise said: “It has been on the farm for six years. We have used it as a picnic train for school kids, but since we opened our new indoor areas in the last couple of years it has been used less and less.

“Over the summer some rail enthusiasts on the farm got it running again. They have been doing it up slowly but surely and have found a good home for it.”

The Nene Valley Railway is a preserved railway in running between Peterborough and Nene Valley with five stations along its seven and a half mile length.

Denise added: “We are only too pleased it is going back to what it was supposed to do in the first place.”

Before arriving at Tweddle Farm, the car was on display at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
