All grateful to IOR
THE Mail has been remiss in devoting insufficient attention to the heartbreaking tale of woe unfolding a few miles east along the A66.
The demise of Darlington Football Club is enough to reduce even the most hard-hearted of Poolies to sobbing tears of uncontrollable laughter.
After the shabby years at Feethams and the insufferable vanity of the George Reynolds Arena, we now witness the pathetic spectacle of a penniless club appealing to its fans (both of them) for money.
Sadly the interest in Darlington Football Club in their own town is now so diluted as to qualify for a branch of homeopathy.
Poolies should sympathise.
Imagine, instead of celebrating hammering Notts County 3-0 at the Vic, being treated to a report of your local team losing 3-1 to Alfreton Town (who?) at the Impact Arena (where?)
The Quakers deserve everything they get, of course, for being such an irritant to Hartlepool over the decades. But their predicament brings into sharp focus the skilled and sensitive management of our own precious club in recent years.
We are all grateful to Ken Hodcroft and IOR.
Hartlepool Borough Council should gets its act together and sell the ground to them forthwith.
Rob Meggs,
Forester Close,
