CHRIS Turner today admitted James Brown's fitness remains a balancing act.

Brown made his first appearance of pre-season in Thursday's final Dutch tour friendly against FC Den Bosch after he was not risked on an artificial surface against Almere City two days earlier.

The 23-year-old missed 12 weeks of last season with a knee injury after a six-month absence the previous year with cruciate damage to the same knee.

Brown still suffers from swelling to his knee after games and director of sport Turner knows Pools will have to keep the undeniably talented striker wrapped in cotton wool for him to get an injury-free run in the side.

Turner said: "It's very frustrating with James.

"He had a little setback this week with some swelling but he managed to get out there on Thursday to get 60 minutes."
