MATTY Robson has been told to hold down the left wing spot at Carlisle United after completing his move to Hartlepool United's League One rivals.
The former Pools winger completed his free transfer to Brunton Park yesterday after putting the finishing touches to his two-year deal with Greg Abbott's side.
Robson turned down the chance to stay at Pools at the end of the season because of concerns over a lack of first-team football and the 24-year-old will be keen to hold down a starting spot with the Cumbrians.
Abbott has told Robson to concentrate on fighting for the left wing slot rather than worry about being pitched in at left-back as he was during his time at Victoria Park.
"I don't want him to be versatile," said Abbott.
"We just want him to go down that left wing and get crosses in to supply the centre-forwards.
"Matt comes with pace and energy and he is an important part of the jigsaw for us.
"He is a genuine left-sided player who can play a big part and I'm looking forward to working with him for the next couple of years."
