FORMER Hartlepool United favourite Dimi Konstantopoulos today admitted he may have to consider his position at Coventry City after the arrival of new signing Keiren Westwood.
And that could provide the opportunity for Pools to strike and bring the popular goalkeeper back to Victoria Park.

Coventry boss Chris Coleman splashed out £750,000 earlier this week to take Carlisle stopper Westwood to the Ricoh Arena, which could spell the end of Konstantopoulos' time in the Midlands.

The Greek was first-choice under previous boss Iain Dowie, but Coleman had other ideas and handed the jersey to Andy Marshall and on-loan Kasper Schmeichel, before sending Konstantopoulos on-loan to Nottingham Forest.

Konstantopoulos admits his agent has received several enquiries from clubs about his services, but he is remaining tight-lipped about the identity of those sides.

SportMail understands though that Pools are one of the clubs to make an enquiry about the situation and it would surely prove a popular move among the fans if Danny Wilson could sign the stopper.

Konstantopoulos said: "There are three goalkeepers at Coventry who will want to play so I don't want to sit around and not play.

"There has been a bit of interest from people and as time goes on, we will be able to give them an answer.

"If Chris Coleman has his own plans and I am not in them, I will look at what I can do.

"If you spend that sort of money on a goalkeeper who has never played in the Championship, then the manager must rate him highly.

"Westwood did well last year and he will be hoping to make more progress."

Konstantopoulos is understandably cautious about any talk over his future, as he is still recovering from the Achilles injury suffered on the second day of training at Forest.

The 29-year-old is not expected to be fit until mid to late August, but will fly to Belgium on Tuesday to step up his rehabilitation at a sports injury clinic.

Konstantopoulos, who kept a record 25 clean sheets in all competitions during Pools' 2006/07 promotion, will then hold head-to-head talks with Coleman when the players return for pre-season training.

"My leg is getting much better and hopefully I will be back sooner than expected," he said.

"The doctor said he was quite impressed with the improvement and I am about a month ahead of schedule.

"After that I will wait and see what the situation is but things change all the time in football.

"As soon as I am fit, I am sure there will be some options for me."

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury Town are the latest club rumoured to be interested in Nottingham Forest striker Grant Holt.

The forward is also thought to be a target for Pools and Carlisle.
