Last night's Player of the Year awards belonged to the Pools captain who scooped the overall Player of the Year trophy along with the Away Player of the Year.

But that was just the beginning of the gongs for the fans favourite.
Humphreys scooped the Player of the Decade trophy for the 2000s and most prestigious of all was named Player of the Century by the clubs fans – hundreds of which were delighted by the decision inside a packed Headland Borough Hall.

The 30-year-old, who will tie the knot this summer, described the evening as "surreal".

Humphreys said: "There were a lot of things I wish I had said, but under the lights it was quite emotional.

"When you think of all the names that have been mentioned like Wattie Moore, Ken Johnson, Jackie Honour, Micky Barron, Adam Boyd and Tommy Miller, it is just incredible.

"There are players who I have played with who have got so much more ability than I have so to get nominated is just incredible.

"The last one (Player of the Century) was just out of this world."

Humphreys pipped Wattie Moore to the top spot, who has previously been named the best every Pools player in a PFA poll, with another fans favourite Brian Honour finishing in third.

Former Sheffield Wednesday man Humphreys has built up a fantastic rapport with the club's fans through his 100 per cent commitment to the cause.

The left-back is a footballer who definitely cares and he revealed his dedication to the club has stemmed from his experiences at Hillsborough as a youngster.

"I don't see a reason why anyone wouldn't go out there and give everything they have got," said Humphreys.

"I have played through niggly injuries and I think I have shown the endeavour, commitment and effort that you are taught as a youngster.

"If you didn't have those you wouldn't make it as a footballer.

"I had the same YTS manager at Wednesday as Richard Barker and he drilled it into us.

"Everyone played with lads at school who were world-beaters but didn't go onto anything because they didn't have the attitude or the application.

"I am privileged to be in this position and you realise it every day when you come into training and get your kit bag out the car."
