HARTLEPOOL United boss Danny Wilson today hinted that he is still pursuing former loanee Darryl Duffy.
Swansea striker Duffy will return to Victoria Park on Saturday for the first time since last season's two-month loan spell when he hit five goals in 10 games for Wilson's men.

Wilson tried to sign Duffy before he returned to former club Hull City and pursued him again last summer. But the financial might of the Swans proved too much and the 23-year-old decided to ply his trade in south Wales in a £200,000 move.

But the Pools boss, who is not expected to make any loan signings before this evening's deadline, gave an indication that Duffy was still on his radar.

When asked whether he was still interested in Duffy, Wilson replied: "We are always interested in good players. Whether we can get them or not is another matter."

Duffy's opportunities have been limited at the Liberty Stadium with Swans boss Roberto Martinez usually opting for a 4-5-1 system.

The former Falkirk forward's chances have not been helped by the form of team-mate Jason Scotland who has already hit 28 for the season, compared to Duffy's two goals in 13 starts and 25 sub appearances.

Duffy did get 45 minutes under his belt on Monday though and helped Swansea come from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Bristol Rovers.

Wilson said: "Darryl is a very good player. We have tried to get him a couple of times but we have not been able to.

"He played very well for us in that loan spell and we know he is a threat.

"Swansea play a certain system, which makes opportunities difficult to come by, but he came on at half-time against Bristol Rovers and helped to change the game.

"I don't know what Roberto's thoughts are but as a general rule, you don't change a winning team.

"You have to say they have done well without him in the side and I don't think there will be any argument from Darryl about that - the form of Scotland has just been fantastic."

Meanwhile, Wilson is still playing a waiting game on whether Richard Barker and Sam Collins will be fit for Saturday's game.

Both limped off in the opening 20 minutes of Monday's victory over Yeovil – Barker with a hamstring injury and Collins with bruised ribs.

Wilson said: "Ritchie will be 50/50 but he is unlikely to play.
"Sam has got severe bruising on his ribs so we will wait and see with him."
