HARTLEPOOL United will make a decision on whether to offer a contract to trialist goalkeeper Derek Soutar by the weekend.
The former Aberdeen stopper was handed a run-out for the second half of last night's game with Greenock Morton, although he had little to do in a quiet 45 minutes.

The 27-year-old, who is expected to feature in tomorrow's game with Falkirk, will stay with Pools throughout their tour of Scotland after trials at Nottingham Forest and American MLS side Houston Dynamos.

Pools boss Danny Wilson said: "He talked very well, his positional sense was very good and he organised the back four. In that respect he did very well, but he didn't have a great deal to do.

"He will be staying with us all this week. I think we will have to make a decision by the weekend.

"I think the problem they had at Aberdeen is they have got an exceptional young goalkeeper and maybe he didn't think he was going to get as many games."

New signings Ritchie Jones and Alan Power both featured in last night's game - Jones playing 90 minutes and Power featuring in the second half.

Wilson felt both acquitted themselves well and thinks they will prove useful additions to the squad.

He said: "Ritchie Jones has got through 90 minutes and I don't think he has given the ball away all night. He passes the ball very simply and passes it well.

"He is a terrific athlete and gets up and down that park and will be an asset to us.

"Alan, I think you can see, is not up to the fitness of one or two of the others, so there will be some hard work put in with him, but we have seen his quality when he gets the ball.

"They are two very good young players and good prospects."
