CHRIS Turner today urged Hartlepool United fans to be patient as the club try to make headway in the transfer market.
Pools have so far made just one summer signing, with central midfielder Alan Power arriving on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest.

Manager Danny Wilson has been hampered by a fairly static transfer market as he looks to bring in another couple of players to Victoria Park.

Director of Sport Turner, who has been minding the fort until Wilson returns to work today after a holiday, said Pools are working on a number of deals and there would be new arrivals at the Vic come the start of the season.

Turner said: "The transfer market is very quiet at the moment and there are not many teams bringing players in.

"It will heat up as soon as we get into July, when managers and players start coming back off their holidays. Contracts also finish at the end of June, which is a bit of a barrier.

"It is a frustrating time for supporters when no new players are coming in, but I can assure our fans that we are looking at players.

"If they can just be a bit patient, they will see a few new players for the start of the season.

"Danny Wilson is going down a number of avenues to bring in players to the club."

A striker is one of Wilson's priorities with the likes of Livingston's Robert Snodgrass linked with a move to the Vic.

Wilson has confirmed his interest in Snodgrass, who is also attracting the interest of Crewe, Dundee and Leyton Orient.

The only problem in signing the 20-year-old is the compensation fee for the Scotland U21 striker.

Orient manager Martin Ling has revealed they have agreed a package which could total £90,000 and is waiting to hear back from the player.

If Snodgrass opts not to join Pools, Wilson could be interested in a move for Hibernian striker Clayton Donaldson, who has fallen down the pecking order at Easter Road.

The former York man was a target for Pools last summer and is also thought to be interesting Oldham Athletic and rivals Darlington.

One striker who will not be plying his trade at the Vic is Grant Holt who earlier this week agreed a £170,000 move from Nottingham Forest to Shrewsbury.

Turner admitted Pools had been interested in signing Holt and the deal had not fallen through because of a lack of finances.

"We tried to get Grant Holt and chased down that avenue," he said.

"When Danny Wilson puts a player to us, it all gets discussed and sometimes it is not a financial situation over whether a player comes to us.

"If a player is available and we think he is right, we will try to get him for this football club."

Meanwhile, Pools have been linked with a move for former Manchester United midfielder Ritchie Jones.

The 21-year-old was released by Sir Alex Ferguson last week after the ex-England Under-19 international made five first-team appearances during his time at Old Trafford.

Tranmere Rovers and Scottish Premier League side Hearts are thought to be leading the chase for Jones.

But Pools are also rumoured to be keeping an eye on the situation along with Burnley and Blackpool.
