Wilson rules out Duffy move

DANNY Wilson today revealed Hartlepool United are unlikely to make a move for former loanee Daryl Duffy.
Pools were rumoured to be weighing up a move for the hitman after Swansea manager Roberto Martinez said Duffy could leave the club.
Martinez revealed a couple of League One clubs had expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, with Bristol Rovers thought to be one of them.
Pools were also rumoured to be an interested party but Wilson confirmed he had made no enquiry for Duffy, although he does remain a fan of the player.
Wilson said: "We are not one of the club who are interested and I don't think that will change from our point of view because we are pursuing other targets."
Duffy was a huge success during his two-month spell at Pools last season after arriving on loan from Hull.
But he has struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Swans lineup this year, primarily due to the form of top scorer Jason Scotland.
Duffy arrived at the Liberty Stadium last summer for a fee of £200,000 but saw himself frozen out at the end of the campaign because Swansea did not want to trigger a £100,000 appearance clause in his contract.
One of the main stumbling blocks towards any move for Duffy is likely to be a substantial transfer fee, with Swansea thought to want a similar return to the one they paid for his services.
Wilson would surely be put off by such a demand, especially after chairman Ken Hodcroft revealed this week that the club would not spend hundreds of thousands of pounds over the summer.
Instead, Wilson will have to wheel and deal to bolster his squad – which was expected to be cut today with the release of the club's retained list.
Wilson said: "As the chairman said the other day, we have to be careful with whoever we are trying to bring into the club.
"I haven't spoke to Roberto (Martinez) so I don't know what they are asking for Daryl, but we have to cut our cloth accordingly."
One player who Wilson may be attracted to is Hartlepool-born defender Peter Hartley.
The Clavering-born 20-year-old will be released by Sunderland at the end of the season after manager Roy Keane opted not to renew Hartley's contract.
Hartley spent the last three months of the season on-loan at Chesterfield, where he made 12 appearances, often as a left-back.
His only appearance for Sunderland was as an 84th minute substitute at Leicester last season.
