I AM writing with reference to the article on page three of the Mail on August 21, entitled A "giant" step, about the steel bridge to connect two sides of the town from Victoria Harbour to The Headland.
The whole tone of the article appeared to give the impression that this bridge is going to be built.

I was under the impression that, not so long ago this bridge was a proposal.

I can't help feeling that this is a fait accompli - one minute talk of it, the next a certainty.

Can your paper enlighten me and maybe other readers as to the exact position concerning this bridge? For example, is it going ahead and has planning permission or whatever is required for such projects been approved?

More importantly, how is this project going to be financed (if it is going ahead)? Will the finance come from us council taxpayers or from central government or from National Lottery funds?

Richard Steer,
Hartlepool.

* Letters editor's note: Answers to these questions and others will be featured in forthcoming planned coverage.
