I READ that Hartlepool United are again in discussion with the council regarding their hope to buy the ground from the council.
Events at Rotherham, Scarborough and Halifax must surely mean councillors would not allow such a sale.

These three clubs, who have all been rivals to Pools, have all hit financial problems and, let's face it, prior to Harold Hornsey, Pools were no
strangers to financial problems.

At Rotherham, the club are now having to play in Sheffield after repeated financial problems and an ongoing debate over the future of their Millmoor home with the land's owner.

Scarborough have gone bust and a new and well supported club, Scarborough Athletic, have been formed.

However, because of a dispute over the future of their former stadium, Scarborough fans have to travel to Bridlington to see the their club play.

Imagine Pools losing the right to play on the Vic and having to play in Middlesbrough!

Meanwhile, Halifax Town have also gone into liquidation and a new club AFC Halifax has been formed.

They are able to play at the Shay, the ground of Halifax Town, because the ground is owned by the council.

Should Pools ever hit financial trouble at some distant point in the future, the ground being owned by Hartlepool Council could be a massive boost.

Lots of clubs' grounds are owned by councils, e.g. Newcastle, and this hasn't stopped them developing their ground.

It is in the best interest of supporters that the council does not sell this ground.
