Electing to save cash

WITH reference to the article in the Mail (July 8) headlined Public may get say over voting change, I agree 100 per cent.
At a full council meeting held on February 14, I proposed a motion which was supported by the majority of all parties, with the exception of the Mayor and the Labour Party.
I truly believe elections every four years give the electorate time to reflect and consider what party or candidate they wish to support and elect.
It would also save an awful lot of expense. Eg, May elections 2007 cost £82,000, so therefore savings of approximately £240,000 could be saved on unnecessary elections.
These could be spent on improving your everyday life, eg, pot holes, roads, faulty paving, environment issues etc.
These were my concerns at the time. But now we are faced with another problem, the loss of bus services numbers one, six and seven, which may yet require some subsidy from the council?
I stated at full council in February that I feel that the term of office is a debate the members of the public should decide. The decision should be theirs.
