HOW MANY more people have to die on the A19 before those in power decide to close the central reservations?

Turning right on this road presents an extreme hazard. Motorists use the A19 as if it was a motorway – they do not expect slow traffic to be crossing the carriageway in front of them.

The only safe solution is to block off all the central reserv
ations. It will only put five minutes on our journey if we have to use the Hart by-pass or the Wolviston junction.

Motorists in Hartlepool should be encouraged to gain access to the A19 via Wolviston or the Hart by-pass. These junctions are much safer.

Elwick was not designed to cope with the current volume of through traffic going to and from the A19. Church Bank cannot cope with two way traffic as it is.

Too many people have died unnecessarily. Let's put a stop to it now.
No more deaths, no more grieving loved ones. Enough is enough. Stop the right turns, it is the only safe solution.

Ron Watts,
Elwick,
Hartlepool

IT IS unbelievable that in this day and age it is still possible to cross over a main trunk road such as the A19.

This road is the equivalent of the north east's M1.

How many more families have to suffer the anguish of losing a loved one until something is done?

With regards to the comments of the gentleman who has had no problems for a number of years crossing the said road, I am sure that the people who have died had also had no problems for the last 15 years.

You only need a car to stall while pulling across the carriageway, which can happen to anybody, especially young and inexperienced drivers with old vehicles, to cause fatalities both to themselves and oncoming vehicles.

It is absurd to try to defend the use of such crossings which should in my mind be illegal.

How many more must die?
