Just let the teachers do their jobs

I READ in the Mail recently that the Primary Strategy for Change document has been produced by officers in Hartlepool Borough Council's children services department in preparation for the revamp of primary education in town.
The first any Hartlepool people heard of it was in the Mail on Friday, June 6!

Obviously this has been known by council members for some time in order to already have drawn up a document – just to gain the £50m which the Government will be paying
(our money back to the town).

I believe at the moment that these are only proposals.

Until the people who use the schools have been consulted then it cannot be taken for granted by our council that everything it says is going to happen.

Or are we being kept in the dark as usual and it is already a fait accompli?

Again it is the dangling of money in front of our council that is causing all this uproar – it would help greatly if the Government and council allowed the teachers to get on with teaching rather than have to keep one eye on their targets, one eye on the children and a further eye for all the form filling that seems to be required these days.

If only our teachers were allowed to get on with the job then probably the schools would do better and would not be disrupted by some unruly elements.

But, of course, you do not seem able to correct, or punish any child, otherwise you will be contravening the health and safety regulations!

S Dobbie,
The Green,
Elwick.
