Look after our dogs

FEW people would deny the loyalty of a dog to its owner. But it would appear that this loyalty is not being rewarded.
The Dogs Trust annual Stray Dog Report is sad reading.
It has revealed that an estimated 96,892 stray dogs were taken in by local councils in the UK last year, 6,710 of which were put to sleep for want of a good home.
Despite the sustained efforts of animal welfare organisations and local authorities, a dog is put to sleep every 80 minutes.
We can only overcome this appalling situation if we introduce compulsory micro-chipping and link dog registration costs to neutering schemes as we see in action in many other countries.
We need to make it clear to those at local and national levels of government that we expect them to take action to right this cruel and callous wrong.
