IN Iain Wright's column (March 20) he once again spun the party line regarding Alistair Darling's first budget.
Perhaps as a "good" socialist he would be better to compare and contrast his government's spending priorities with the Scottish Governments.
- Benefits exclusive to Scotland include:
- Free university fees
- Free personal care for the elderly
- Free central heating installation for pensioners
- Free school meals for some Scottish children between the ages of four and seven – with plans to extend to children of all ages
- More readily available specialist drugs for many serious illnesses, such as cancer, sometimes free
- Free prescription charges for all by 2011 – as announced by First Minister Alex Salmond
- Free dental check-ups and eye tests.
A university student living and studying in Scotland will study for free, while the student residing in England faces £3,000 a year in fees.
Education! Education! Education! Remember?
The words of the song "It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it, that's what gets results" springs to mind.
