GAS hikes and misery, probably resulting in deaths to some as customers struggle to find cash to heat their homes this coming winter.
The electorate should be asking themselves where is the Prime Minister in this major exigency, and what does he propose to do about the perilous situation that many unfortunate supporters of Labour find themselves in today?

We had that monotone en
ergy minister Malcolm Wicks, boring us to death on the TV telling us what Labour has achieved in the past, but unable to inform the public what they intend to do about the present crisis that faces millions of people today.

Loft insulation, cavity wall fittings, turning your heating down – that's a laugh, you won't be able to afford to have it on in the autumn. Have UPVC windows and doors fitted and install low-energy lightbulbs, all very well, but that does not find the £300 or so extra over and above the winter fuel allowance that pensioners or families on limited income, will have to find.

If you think for one moment that the Government will introduce a 'windfall tax' on profiteering companies, forget it. Mr Wicks is also the minister for business and enterprise, and to tax them could mean that they take their business elsewhere.

Mr Wicks tediously rambled on in his speech, repeating over and over again the future expectations of Labour, but like other cabinet colleagues, i.e. Ruth Kelly, Yvette Cooper and her husband Ed Balls, and also Jack Straw, I suggest they should all be permanently holidaying in the continent they so highly regard and support, the EU.

Oh, and don't forget – take Gordon Brown with you, and I definitely wish them au revoir, adieu and ta ta.

Fred Gibbon,
Masefield Road,
Hartlepool.
