I WOULD just like to say thank you, to the "chief pothole filler" of the Hartlepool highways department.
The problem pothole at the junction of Catcote Road and Marlowe Road has, at long last, been repaired to a reasonable standard. So thank you for that.

I hope that you and your department can now devote your energies into repairing some of the major roads that are so badly in need of urgent repair work.

I realise that the highways budget isn't finite. But the roads around town are in a disgraceful state in lots of places.

Given the budget situation, how can the council afford to spend so much money on the York Road improvement project?

The length of time the work has been under way is staggering.

The stretch of road between Lister Street and Park Road isn't exactly the Roman Road. So how come it's taken all this time?

Hopefully the end result will be better than the improvements previously undertaken in York Road, which left a lot to be desired.

Do the council actually employ a clerk of works to oversee contracts undertaken on there behalf?

Fred Corbett,
Hartlepool.
