THE area’s best bodybuilders descended on Hartlepool and flexed their muscles yesterday.
Dozens of strongmen and women gathered at the Borough Hall, on the Headland, for the National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) northern area qualifier yesterday.
The event, which has been held in Hartlepool for 10 years and always draws a crowd, was organised by NABBA representative and Hartlepool bodybuilder Eddy Ellwood, himself a former five-time Mr Universe winner who also won England’s Strongest Man title on four separate occasions.
Yesterday’s regional qualifier was an opportunity for the bodybuilders to put their hard work to practice and impress the panel of judges and qualify for the National Bodybuilding Championships.
Judging, which got underway at noon and lasted until around 4.30pm, took place in 11 categories which covered all ages and levels for both men and women.
And all of the entrants had the chance to let their hair down as the winners received their trophies and prizes at a social event last night, which was attended by two former Mr Universe winners.
