A PROJECT has been launched to get young people more active and involved in sport.
The east Durham-based scheme offers young people aged 13 to 19, who do not usually take part in sport, the chance to enjoy sessions with professional sports coaches.
Classes will run throughout the school summer holidays in the Easington Colliery, Blackhall, Peterlee and Wheatley Hill areas.
Sessions will be run by staff from the council’s sport and leisure team.
Youth workers will also take part to develop their own sporting skills, which they will then be able to pass on to other young people.
Sessions are now under way and are taking place every week between 6pm and 8pm at four different venues.
They run on Tuesdays at the Greenhills Centre, in Stephens Terrace, in Wheatley Hill; on Wednesdays, at Easington Colliery Welfare Park; on Thursdays, at Blackhall Welfare Park, and on Fridays, at Helford Road Pavilion, in Peterlee.
