A JET-SKIING teenager has helped to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Money is still pouring in after Matthew Garner, 15, raised the cash by jet skiing his way from Hartlepool to Whitby along with 10 other members of the town’s yacht club.

Matthew, who has cerebral palsy, boarded a jet ski with his dad, Russell, 48, before they rode the surf for the 27-miles journey.

Russell, from Low Grange, in Billingham, said: “It is looking good for more than £1,000 raised. We have collected quite a lot.”

The journey to Whitby took 75 minutes and Russell said: “It was a bit choppy and I found it quite hard going.”

The convoy headed back to Hartlepool later the same day after an hour’s break in Whitby, but this time without Matthew who travelled home by car with his grandparents.

The group of jet skis and boats completed the return journey in almost two hours as bad weather closed in.

The money raised will go to the Durham-based physiotherapy charity Heel To Toe.
