A THEATRE group will offer audiences something a bit different when they host a travelling performing duo.
The Billingham Players will play host to The Nickel which is made up of Helen Speed and Steve McNichol.
They will present their story of a performer’s experience of fame and failure in America in an original song cycle called The Comeback – Rise and Fall of a Smalltown Diva.
The show will be performed for one night only at The Theatre Upstairs in Billingham on Friday (May 3).
The Nickel said: “We’re sure there are many performers and artists out in the world who came from small towns and dreamed of making it big.
“The Comeback is a look into the life and ambition of one such dreamer and the consequences of her success.
“The story is set in the USA circa 1935–60 for dramatic purposes, but the idea is universal.
“Our heroine rises to fame after sacrificing family, friends and integrity, and falls from grace, but can she be redeemed?”
Helen and Steve are well known for performing to local theatre goers from The Billingham Players and local operatic groups.
But audiences may not be aware of their background in composition and musical direction.
As cabaret duo The Nickel, Steve and Helen take their unique performance style to community venues and private parties.
The Comeback starts at 8pm and doors open at 7pm and a bar will be available.
Tickets are priced at £7 and £5 concessions.
They are available by calling (01642) 586180 or (01642) 551981.
