It’s by consoling yourself with top-notch food.
With that in mind, I headed for The Vinery in Victoria Road – because it’s very good.
The choices at this town centre sandwich bar are always rich and varied and I have heard nothing but great things about this place.
Strangely, though, and for no particular reason, I have not been a frequent visitor down the years.
That could be about to change after my experience recently. As soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted by a friendly face.
And because there was so much on the menu board to choose from, I needed time to make my selection.
The staff seemed happy for me to browse to my heart’s content.
After selecting your choice of filling there is a range of fresh bread to choose from and pretty much every item of salad you can think of.
The Vinery also does a fine selection of paninis, salad boxes and jacket potatoes.
I opted for a sandwich of turkey with a sprinkling of salad, namely cucumber, carrot and lettuce – all on granary bread.
After a month of behaving myself very well, and sticking religiously to a healthy diet, I added butter to the meal.
The whole lot cost £2.60 and was worth every penny.
It was fresh, tasty and did more than just satisfy the usual lunchtime hunger pangs. It left me feeling happy for the rest of the day.
I also bought a bottle of blackcurrant juice and a bag of crisps and the whole bill was a respectable £4.30. That’s a bargain in my book.And with prices like that, it won’t be long before I return.
