FAMILIES are being urged to lace up their trainers and sign up for a fun run celebrating the countdown to the London Olympics.
The event will take place as part of the town’s ‘one year to go’ celebrations until the games in London get underway.
As well as three fun runs, of 2k, 4k and 6k in distance, people can also enjoy a day-long event with a host of free activities and performances.
The event takes place at Summerhill Outdoor Centre and Country Park, off Catcote Road, in Hartlepool, on Sunday, July 24.
Gemma Saunders, senior sports development officer for Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “The family run is an opportunity for people of all abilities to come together, improve their fitness and have fun as we look forward to the Olympic Games in London. There are three routes and it is up to participants to identify which one they would like to tackle.
“Some people may choose to take on the challenge of more than one.”
The 2k run, which is suitable for the whole family to walk, jog or run starts at 10.15am. The starting gun for the 6k and the 4k walks will go off at 9am and 9.45am respectively.
The all-day event, called Celebration Village - Let the Games Begin will run from 11am-5pm at Summerhill.
Entry to the fun runs are free but runners are encouraged to register in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling Pat Wormald on (01429) 523404.
