TEESSIDE’S latest X Factor star will light up Hartlepool for Christmas and kick off four days of festive fun.
Abi Alton will switch on the town’s festive lights tomorrow in Church Square at 6pm.
She will be joined by the town’s Ceremonial Mayor Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher for the first Christmas lights switch-on ceremony in Hartlepool for a number of years. Adding to the seasonal cheer tomorrow night will be much-loved Hartlepool band The Jar Family who will be performing, as will youngsters from Red Dreams.
The switch-on will be the first day of festive fun as Church Square hosts Hartlepool’s first ever Christmas market. A Merry Christmas A’Fair – Fall In Love with Christmas in Hartlepool will run from tomorrow until Friday, December 6 from 3.30pm to 7.30pm and on Saturday, December 7, from 11am to 5pm.
Decorated wooden cabins around the square hosting independent traders will be tempting residents with beautiful gifts and tasty fare. A special light display on the Hartlepool Art Gallery tower will recreate the gentle fall of drifting snowflakes.
Those looking for even more great gift ideas can pop into the Art Gallery where there will be a drop-in crafts workshop and lots of unique items for sale. Choirs will perform in the square and seasonal pantomime favourites will be acted out by the students of East Durham College. And Santa will join in with the fun on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 5.30pm-7.30pm.
