A FUNDAY organised by a town cheerleading team helped to raise more than £1,000.
The Hartlepool Hawks cheerleading club are hoping to raise £4,000 to fund some new much-needed equipment.
Coaches and members organised the event, which took place at Brierton Community Sports Centre, in Hartlepool, to try and boost the clubs coffers and were over the moon with the outcome.
Scores of people turned out and enjoyed the wide range of stalls and games on offer.
People also got the opportunity to watch the national trophy-winning team in action when they performed a number of their successful routines.
Members of Hartlepool Trampolining Club and On Your Toes dance school also performed on the day.
The event raised £1,026.
Rebecca Taylor, head coach of the Hawks was delighted and hailed the event a huge success.
The Sunderland University student who celebrates her 21st birthday today said: “I wasn’t sure how many people would turn up, but the sports hall was full for most of the day.
“All the parents chipped in to help out and we had some really kind donations from companies and people in the town.
“It was a really successful day.”
The fun day was the latest bit of good news for the club who have had a hugely successful 12 months since they launched as the town’s first dedicated cheerleading club last year.
The talented youngsters have featured in the Mail on a number of occasions thanks to their impressive performances on the national stage.
Rebecca is now planning even more fundraising activities to help the club reach their target of £4,000.
She added: “We are going to organise a night event sometime soon, but we haven’t got an exact date yet.
“The sooner we reach the £4,000 the better and we can get the new floor for the cheerleaders.
“I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far and who helped to make the event a success.”
