Diabetes charity launches membership drive
A LEADING health charity has relaunched its membership scheme to support people with diabetes.
One person is diagnosed with diabetes every three minutes in the UK and 2.5 million people are now living with the condition.
The condition can lead to complications including heart disease, blindness and amputation.
Now, the Diabetes UK organisation is asking people to get on board and back the cause.
It provides essential support for people with diabetes, and for their families and carers.
Organisers are aiming to spend more than 8m this year to fund vital research.
They say that the more members they have, the louder their voice will be in campaigning for diabetes to be taken more seriously.
There is no set membership fee to become a member of Diabetes UK.
People must simply make a donation if they can, for whatever amount they feel comfortable with.
The aim, though, is to have all people with diabetes signed up for the cause.
Diabetes UK, with 300,000 supporters, is marking its 75th anniversary this year.
Campaigners say the support of the public will ensure that the charity will continue its vital work for many more years to come.
Anyone wanting to become a member of Diabetes UK, or for more information on membership, should visit www.diabetes.org.uk/supportingmember or call supporter services on 0845 123 2399.
