STUDENTS are busy organising a masked ball to raise money for a cancer charity.
Young people who attend Nacro Services Hartlepool are putting on the event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Nacro helps young people who are not in education, training or work to learn new skills and gain qualifications.
The event, which will feature an auction, will be held from 3pm on Thursday, September 15, at Nacro’s base at Unit 2, Usworth Enterprise Park, in Usworth Road, Hartlepool.
Nacro providers, Connexions staff, school teachers, Macmillan nurses and parents will be attending the ball and it will also be a chance for the guests to see what the students have been working on.
Hairdressing and barbering student Kayleigh Simpson, 17, who is helping to organise the event, said: “There is always someone that you know or someone linked to someone you know who has suffered from cancer.
“Macmillan is a really good cause to support.
“The students have been designing their masks around what they will be wearing.
“Nacro’s hairdressing salon is at the centre of it all and we will be creating different hairstyles for the event with a 1950s and 1960s theme.
“The guys on the construction course are also building us something to sell off at the auction.
“Everyone is excited about it and we have got the support of our tutor.”
Nacro hair and beauty tutor Michelle Hall said: “I’m really proud of the students for organising this event.
“It’s so amazing that the young people want to give something back to charity.
“They have put a lot of work into it and they are buzzing because they feel so proud of what they have done.
“They have been busy approaching businesses to get raffle prizes.
“Young people don’t get the right press lately – it’s all doom and gloom, but our students want to promote youth.”
The ball will also feature a tombola and raffles.
Tickets for the event cost £3 and are available from Nacro.
