A WOMAN is hoping Mail readers can shed some light on the identity of the people in this 40-year-old picture.
Janice Kelly (nee Magee) was brought up in the West View area of Hartlepool and lived on the estate all her life until she moved to the town’s Rift House estate 11 years ago.
She has many fond memories of growing up in West View with her sisters, Lynne Whittingham, 44, and Karen Barnfield, 40.
Janice, who attended nursery on the Central Estate, as well as West View Primary School and the former Henry Smith School, sent us this picture of the popular Rovers Day celebrations.
Rovers Day was an annual fun day held at Hartlepool Rovers Rugby Club, in West View Road.
This particular shot captured Janice and her childhood friends on the back of a fire engine during Rovers Day of 1972, when she was just three years old.
She got in touch with the Hartlepool Mail to see if any readers remember Rovers Day or if anyone can provide information on the identity of the other youngsters.
Janice, 43, whose parents are Carol, 61, and the late Michael Magee, a former Steetley security guard, said: “Could you publish this photograph and see if anyone knows anyone in this picture or about Rovers Day in 1972.
“I came across this photograph which was taken in 1972 on Rovers Day when I was going through all my own photographs.
“My name was then Janice Magee, aged three years old.
“I am now 43 years old, so that makes the photograph 40 years old.
“I am the girl with the blonde hair, long white socks and cross-over dress.
“The boys on the left I believe are the Burton family – Peter, Alan and Les from West View.
“Their mam was called Irene and she was a lovely lady.
“We lived next door to the Burtons in Purves Place and they were a lovely family.
“I remember Rovers Day very well – we all sat on the back of a fire engine and got taken for a ride around the field.
“I don’t know anyone else in the picture.”
