CAN any of our Family Roots readers shed light on the people pictured in this 54-year-old photograph?

It shows the workforce at the crankshaft factory in Hartlepool, and was taken in 1960.

It’s thanks to Gerald Grayson that we can share this picture, and Gerald would love to identify his former workmates.

He was one of the people who made the crankshafts at the factory which was also known as Ambrose Shardlows.

The factory was sited on the Hartlepool Trading Estate which is understood to be where the Oakesway Industrial Estate now stands.

Gerald and his family tell us that many of the workforce in the 1960s are thought to have come from the East Durham colliery areas. We would love to track down some of them to share their memories of their time there.

Did you work there and what was your job?

We would also like to hear from anyone with memories of the crankshaft factory.
