FORMER schoolfriends are hoping to meet in happier times after funerals of classmates spurred them on to organise a reunion.
Helen O’Rourke (nee Burdis), Tracey Ingham-Hughes and Damon Bage (pictured) are arranging a gathering for Dyke House Secondary School’s Class of 1987. It will be held at 7pm at the Masonic Hall, in Raby Road, on Saturday, February 23.
It will be a celebration to remember late classmates, including Graham Welsh, who died in November 2010.
The trio have set up a Facebook event page, but would love to see Darren Griffiths, Lee Curry, Jane Ramshaw, Lee Cartwright, Vicky Walker, Lisa Foreman, James Laine, Philip Cain and Raymond Liddell, who don’t appear to be on the social networking site.
They would also like to see Paul Hackwell and his wife Julie (nee Wallace), David Payne and wife Lynne (nee Richards) and John Tilley and wife Annette (nee White).
Helen, a 41-year-old support worker from the Dyke House area, said: “Around 10 of our year group have died and we have been meeting at funerals. We want to meet in happier times. “And some of us have done really well. Damon Bage is a vicar and Stephen Lithgo has his own joinery business.”
Ralph Graham will travel to the event from Germany, and Vee Hoggard, who was known as Vicky Goodier at school, is travelling from Newbury.
Proceeds from the event, which is also open to teachers, will go to Hartlepool & District Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support, after some classmates lost battles with cancer.
There will be a buffet, disco and raffle and tickets are £10. For more information, search for School reunion for Dyke House leavers 1987 on Facebook or call Tracey on 07719837609.
