A well known Hartlepool factory is the subject of this week’s trip down Memory Lane.
Who remembers Cerebos which was based in Greatham and employed around 1,000 people at its peak.
We have photos which show the production taking place as well as packing and a visit to the plant by councillors.
The factory started life as Greatham Salt Works before it was taken over by George Weddell in 1894 and became Cerebos in 1906. In 1966, the J A Sharwood brand moved to the Greatham site and a year later, Brand & Co moved to the location.
In 1968 Cerebos was taken over by RHM but a downturn in fortunes later led to the site closing in 2002.
If you have memories of it, get in touch and tell us more.
