CLASSMATES reunited to mark 30 years since they left school.

Around 50 former students from Dyke House School’s Class of ‘83 got together for a reunion, held at Hartlepool Rovers Quoit Club.

Graham Button, a 46-year-old Stagecoach bus driver, who organised the event with Sonia McKie, said: “It was a fantastic day.

“Everyone was so pleased to see schoolfriends we all hadn’t seen for such a long time.

“Emotions were running high with classmates catching up, relating and reminiscing about past times.

“Our very own Mark Venus, of Middlesbrough FC, was among the classmates and we all want to thank him for taking time out to be there.

“Mark’s biggest fan George Cuniff, 64, got to hear about Mark’s presence so decided to call in to meet his idol.

“Thinking the night could not get any better, in walks our PE teacher and football coach Bob McLeod.

“Bob was a great role model to all of us. He was and still is a great person to be involved with.

“We would all like to thank him for taking time out to spend with us.

“If I had to describe our feelings on the reunion and I am quite sure we all would agree, it would simply be ‘emotionally blown away with overwhelming support from all’.”

Graham said a minute’s silence was held for classmates who have passed away.

He thanked those who contributed to catering, as well as Danreece Disco.

Graham hinted that he is planning another get-together for 2014, but would only reveal: “I am planning another event next year with a twist.”
