It is a village steeped in mining industry so we’ve turned the clock back to the halcyon days of Horden Colliery.

Who can tell us more about them? Two of our pictures show the visit of the Duchess of Kent to Horden pit in October 1944.

Photographer Ken Parker snapped the
Horden Lodge Banner at the Durham Miners' Gala in 1976.

One shows her with miners safety helmet and overalls, and with regional commissioner Sir Arthur Lambert.

The second photo shows her in the pit cage with miners carefully watching.

Did you work down the pit? If so, what are your memories?

Next, the cloth cap and the banner depicts the colliery on the march at the Durham Miners Gala in July 1976.
