WITH reference to your picture of the street which used to be where the baths are now (Mail, December 26), these houses were called Rium Terrace.
They were called Rium because the man who built them was called Muir and didn’t want to use his name, so they spelled it backwards.
There was a sweet shop on both sides of the Forum.
The one on the left was also a high class fruit shop as well as sweets.
I cannot remember the name of them. When we were lads we only bothered about sweets.
