Today we take a ticket to ride back to the past - thanks to these old Mail photos.

Long-gone sights such trams, miniature steam trains and seal-coaling lorries are the focus of today’s Memory Lane.

And there is also an evocative shot of a West Hartlepool ambulance, pictured at Elwick Road in June 1954.

“Once again I’ve been trawling through the Mail’s old glass plates for hidden gems,” said archivist Susan Swinney.

“Possibly my favourite of this batch is the sea-coaling one - as it has been a Hartlepool tradition for centuries.

“But I also adore the miniature train one. Who can forget having rides on trains like that as a little kid?”
