I RECOGNISE a couple of features of the photo of the unveiling of the War Memorial (Memory Lane, March 3).
The picture recalls the event which was, I think, in 1922.
My father was on parade there as he was in the Territorial Army, or the “Terriers” as they were known locally.
The houses on the extreme right of the photo were in Ward Street.
My parents lived there in the 1930s in the second house visible.
The gable end of the white building in the centre of the picture shows an advertising slogan reading “Watt’s His Name for smart shoes” in Park Road.
Does anyone remember the tobacconist’s shop in York Road with the unusual name of Find It Out?
I think there was another one with the same title in Church Street.
