YOUNG cooks showed off their skills in the kitchen during a challenge at a council-run summer care scheme.

OSCARS, which is based at West Hartlepool Rugby Club, in Hartlepool’s Catcote Road, hosted the Ready, Steady, Cook themed challenge with teams of children competing against each other.

Over the summer, a whole host of full-day activities are planned for children between the ages of three and 16 at Hartlepool Borough Council-run OSCARS until Tuesday, September 3.

Parents are able drop off their children from 8am with breakfast provided for them on arrival. Kids then embark on an action-packed day of fun and thrills prior to being collected by parents before 5.45pm.

Yesterday saw the children enjoy the Ready, Steady, Cook challenge at the Catcote Road base and today they were due to be taking part in a national play day at the Summerhill site, off Catcote Road.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, August 8, the children will be enjoying a trip to the Vue Cinema and on Friday, August 9, there will be a day of kite making and flying experiments for the children.

For more information about the playweeks or the after school service, people are asked to call the OSCARS playcentre on 07771936968.
