Paul Weller continues his purple patch of experimentalism which, as the title suggest, sees him increasingly sprialling into the cosmos.

Long Time chugs along menacingly like the Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog, Going My Way’s refrain veers into a Todd Rundgren-meets-the Beach Boys stomp while his voice is megaphoned like Captain Beefheart on White Sky.

But Weller’s renaissance has not come at the expense of his musical identity.

The sunshine-pop haze of Phoenix is Style Council-era Weller and I’m Where I Should Be soun ds a bit like a lost Jam classic.

Weller sheds his anachronistic Modfather tag as he heads into deep space.
