VISITORS to a nature reserve have had a welly good time over the last few days thanks to some innovative events.

RSPB Saltholme, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, has had a series of welly-themed events to keep people entertained over the festive break.

After setting up a welly-throwing event which proved popular with competitive dads, and setting aside an area for youngsters to enjoy a splash about in their best boots, bosses then decided to give people an area to hand over their unwanted wellies.

The result of that saw a welly tree being created in the grounds of the popular centre.

Caroline Found, lifelong learning manager at RSPB Saltholme, said: “We have had lots of fun at the various events, and it is fantastic to see so many people coming back to see us.”
