A COUPLE have taken their town’s proud message to Arabia – where they surprisingly found snow where there should have been sand.
Margaret and Paul Whitaker were proud to be Poolies in Dubai, the desert metropolis of the United Arab Emirates.
Margaret said she managed to talk a passing Dubai local into getting a snap with her to “lend authenticity” to the picture that was taken in the city’s shopping mall.
And, despite temperatures of 40C being the norm, that is snow in the background as they stood in front of the centre’s indoor skiing complex.
With real snow, ski lifts, pistes and toboggan runs, Margaret simply described the scene as “amazing”.
She said: “My husband and I recently visited Dubai as part of a cruise package and took with us a poster to promote our dedication to and pride in our home town.”
The couple, from The Green, in Seaton Carew, are among a host of proud Hartlepudlians that are spreading the message far and wide.
