A TEEN singing sensation is hoping to wow the judges after making it through to the regional finals of a major competition.
Jessica Harrison, 14, from Hartlepool, recently beat off competition from 200 performers at the heats of Open Mic 2011 in Newcastle.
The talented teenager will take to the stage again later next month at the Tyne Theatre, again in Newcastle, in a bid to reach the national finals at the O2 Arena in London.
The overall winner of the competition comes away with a recording contract worth £50,000.
Jessica, who goes to English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College, attends singing lessons at the Edith Harrison Performing Arts and the Northern School of Music, both in Hartlepool.
The youngster sang Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ at the heat and is set to perform Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri at the regional finals in Newcastle, on October 22.
Jessica, who will also feature in her school’s upcoming performance of We Will Rock You, said: “I was really pleased to make it through to the regional finals.
“I love singing, I have been practising a lot and I want to do this as a career when I get older.
“My friends and family have been really supportive and I just hope to do well.”
The teenager lives in the town’s Tunstall Avenue with mum and dad, Dave and Lynne Harrison and brothers Mark, 21 and 16-year-old Adam.
Dave, a retail manager, said: “The whole family is really proud of her.
“Jessica has a lot of determination to do well and this is a great opportunity for her.
“She is also delighted to be representing Hartlepool in the competition.”
Tickets for the regional finals of Open Mic 2011 are priced £8 and will be available soon.
